■retrench【ﾘﾄﾚﾝﾁ】　削減する、切り詰める、縮小する
- retrench the personnel cost　人件費を削減する
- retrench expenses　諸経費を削減する

■discourage someone from～　（人）の～する気をそぐ
- She tried to discourage him from watching more TV.
　彼女は彼がこれ以上TVを見るのをやめさせようとした

■someone's hands are tied　何もできないでいる、自由にならない
- My hands are tied.
　(なんとかしようにも）どうしようもない

■dismiss　解雇する　（=let go）
- He was dismissed from his job today.
　彼は今日解雇された

■let go　解雇する
