The 35-year-old, who won gold in Sydney eight years ago, missed out for the second successive Olympics after her shock failure to qualify for the 2004 Athens Games.

8年前のシドニー五輪で金メダルをとった35歳の高橋尚子は、04年アテネ五輪に続き、2回連続して五輪出場を逃した。

Takahashi denied she was considering retirement after finishing in a pedestrian 2:44:18 but her lacklustre performance has already triggered speculation about her future.

"I still want to go on and continue in athletics," she told reporters. "This was the best I had in me today. I had surgery on my knee last August and I hadn't done enough speed work. "I couldn't find that extra gear. I just have to accept the result."

＜雑記＞
高橋尚子選手は好きな選手なので結果にはちょっと残念でしたが、「やりたい」を貫いて、「これが今の実力」と言い訳をしない姿勢はさすがと思います。
あとの選手は、いまいちパッとしないなぁという感じです。
