■イアンは、両親が来るので手料理を作ってほしいとスーザンに頼む

Susan: "Is it really important that I make them a home-cooked meal?"
　　　　（家庭料理をふるまうことがそんなに大事なの？）

・home-cooked meal　家庭料理

Ian: "Well, it's just that they're very old-fashioned hearth-and-home types, and they might wonder why you didn't make the effort. But it's okay. You'll win them over. Eventually."
（古い考えで家庭的な人だからそういうものだと思っている。でも大丈夫。君なら気に入られるよ。いずれはね。）

・hearth and home　家庭　（hearth【ﾊｰｽ】　暖炉、家庭）
・win over　説得する、納得させる、味方に引き入れる

Susan: "Okay, I'll give it a shot."
　　　　　（わかった。頑張ってみる）

・give it a shot　試しにやってみる
shotは「試み」の意味。shotの代わりにtryを使ってgive it a tryでも同じ。

Ian: "Thank you. Now nothing elaborate. Just a simple roast and, uh, and something appropriate to go with it."
（ありがとう。凝らなくていいよ。簡単な肉料理に合う何か適当に添えれば。）

・elaborate　念入りの、複雑な、凝った
・go with　（ものが）～とよく合う、調和する

(go withの例文）
Spicy food goes with beer. スパイスの効いた食べ物はビールによく合う
That hat doesn't go with your shoes.　あの帽子はあなたの靴に合わない
