行方不明者から一転して容疑者となって逮捕されたのりピー。今回の事件の説明をするときに使えそうな英語と最近の英語ニュース動画をご紹介します。
■のりピー事件で使える英語
携帯の電波は「reception」。電波が弱いは「bad reception」「weak reception」。
- I have bad reception.
- You seem to have bad reception.
- The reception is bad/not good in my room.
覚せい剤は、覚せい剤取締法で指定された薬物の総称で、正確に覚せい剤に相当する英語はない。一般的に訳されるときは「stimulant drugs」や「speed（俗称）」が使われているようです。
admit to... で（人が）（…を）認める, 白状する。
admit doing/having doneも同じ
- She admitted using (having used) stimulant drugs.
（「より以前」という時間関係はadmitの意味からわかるので動名詞は完了形でなくてもよい）
人が～の検査で陽性（陰性）になるは、
①somebody tests positive (negative) for ～
- She tested negative for illegal drugs.
②test ＋ be ＋ positive (negative)
be動詞の代わりに、「come back」、「prove」 などが使われることも多い
- The urine test was negative.

Tokyo police are trying to determine when the singer and actress Noriko Sakai began using illegal stimulants because she and her husband are giving different accounts.
Police arrested the 38-year-old entertainer earlier this month for alleged drug possession, one week after her husband was arrested on the same charge.
Police say they found a small amount of stimulants at her home in central Tokyo. A hair sample from Sakai has tested positive for illegal drugs.
Police say Sakai initially confessed that she had taken stimulants several times after her husband suggested that she try them last summer. But police have told NHK that she has now admitted using them even before last summer.
Her husband has reportedly told police that he began using stimulants about four or five years ago, about the same time as Sakai.

警察は、都心にある容疑者の自宅から微量の覚せい剤を発見した。酒井容疑者の毛髪サンプルからは薬物陽性反応がでた。
酒井容疑者は、当初、昨年夏に夫から勧められて数回覚せい剤を使用したと自供していた。しかし、警察がNHKに伝えた内容によると、去年の夏以前から使用していたことを認めたという。
夫は４、５年前から覚せい剤を使い始め、妻も同じ時期に始めたと供述している。
