Skypeで海外に住む外人の知り合いとのチャットをした。
電話並みの音質で会話ができるのでとても便利。
イングリッシュタウンの会話クラス意外で英語を話す機会は皆無だったけど、これで少しはアウトプットの場所ができそう。

ここ数週間は多忙だったため、ものすごい量のDVDが溜まっている...
日本語番組は２倍速＋不要な部分とばしで半分以下の時間で見るので、かなりを消化した。
英語でしゃべらナイトにゲストで出ていたマーティ・フリードマンが英語学習者へ言っていたアドバイス。
For example, doing something in England or America or even in Japan, something that has to do with learning English. Otherwise, you're just memorizing things for no reason. So if you have a goal, something that you need English for. It's gonna make you want to study harder and improve.

英語を使う明確な目的がない人が多いから、日本人は英語が上達しないのかなぁ。私も漠然と英語の勉強してるし...

10月TOEICの結果
2006/11/13 Mon [Edit]
結果：810点（L445 R365）。ほぼ予想通り。下手すると800点いかないと思っていたのでなんとか800超えてひと安心。
ここのところ3回続けてほぼ同じような点数であまり進歩がない。
目標の860点に達成するにはリーディングをなんとかしないと無理っぽい。
1年前に初めて800点をクリアして喜んでいたけど、それからの1年は横ばい。
1年あれば860点を越えられると考えていたけど、860点の壁はなかなか甘くないということがわかった。
TOEICは英語力を評価するのによくできたテストだと改めて感じた。この一年とくに新たなこともやらず現状維持程度と自分で感じている通りの結果がテストに反映されている。LとRのスコアも毎回ほぼ同じだし...。
次は860点目指して半年後くらいに受けようと思う。

この間の英語でしゃべらナイトのインタビューは、私の好きな歌手の1人であるビリー・ジョエル（Billy Joel）。
英語は非常に聞き取りやすく簡単に理解できた！
いいこと言うなぁと感心。真の成功者はやっぱり芯がある。何の仕事でもそうだと思うけど、成功するにはしっかりした土台が必要。
I never wanted to be, you know, as famous as I am now.
I wanted to be good at what I did.
I wanted to be a good musician.

I would say start small and just play in places where your music has a good atmosphere.
Don't try to make big moves, don't worry about having a big successful recording.
Just work in the place where you belong.
If you get really, really good, you will get a following here.
You can dream big. Don't try to become a star. It's not about being a star, it's about being good. If you're good, you'll be OK.
